PERSONALITY |
To put it simply, Kateryna is... well, simple. She is a rather plain, motherly woman. She likes taking care of people in general, especially the younger ones. The woman would be delighted seeing children happy and content under her care. Aside from people, she also likes tending plants and animals. They make her feel alive and giving her a purpose to do. This also applies to her friends, acquaintances and even strangers. When she sees someone is unhappy, Kateryna would offer consolation and a shoulder to cry on. Seeing other people or living creature suffering hurts her. She would feel sad if she couldn't do anything to ease their pain. Sometimes the pain she felt is so unbearable, driving her into tears. Kateryna herself is a very sensitive person since she got sick when she was young. Even though many people think that she's a crybaby, it doesn't hinder her to protect those who are dear to her heart, like her siblings. She'd use herself as a shield to protect them, and if necessary Kateryna wouldn't hesitate to use violence. She doesn't like it, but she hates being useless in protecting someone else. Using violence doesn't hurt her heart as much if Kateryna did it to another who uses it to harass people. The woman is a very determined and diligent person. Once her mind is set to do something, Kateryna would not stop until the job is done. She doesn't mind working hard; waking up early and sleeping late doing whatever she can do. While she pays so much attention to others around her, the woman doesn't really care about her reflection on the mirror as long as she looked presentable and professional. She used to keep her long hair braided, but opted to cut it short for easier care. Since she does so much work in one day, it's important for her to keep herself disciplined. Schedules and to-do lists are something Kateryna often makes, especially during exam week. But if she has too much things to do at once or under a pressure, Katerya would broke. She'd lose her focus and become clumsier. If someone talked to her at this state, she often would laugh or reply with something entirely unrelated. These are signs of tiredness, so she'd really appreciate it if someone else took over her job and allow herself rests for a while (even though she'd insist to keep working). Although she is very altruistic, deep down Kateryna wants other people to take care of her just like she does to them. Usually she buries this thought, thinking that she could spoil herself by doing a hobby or buying something nice for herself. Still, it doesn't change the fact that she wants and needs someone else use their time for her. That's why she despises people who take things for granted. Kateryna also doesn't like selfish and egoist people. She rarely expresses her disliking though, and if she does she'd choose a non-straightforward approach. The woman also harbors jealousy towards people who don't need to work hard to fulfill their needs. It's just unfair. |
Likes | Dislikes |
+Gardening: Katya likes taking care of living things, like plants and flowers. The fruits she harvests herself tasted better in her opinion. She dreams of owning her own little farm in the future. +Singing: A good singer by nature, Katya prefers folk songs. They evoke simple and innocent atmosphere, reminding her of her hometown. If it's not folk, Katya wouldn't mind singing it as long as the lyrics don't depict violence. +Baking/cooking in general: She already mastered cooking simple dishes but always love to try new recipe. Katya often brings her homemade cookies to school and shares it with her students and teachers. She's still learning how to make solotkiy kalach. +Needlework: Sewing, knitting, crocheting... anything involving needles and threads. Katya used to mend old and tattered clothes when her family didn't have enough money to buy a new one. And once she was able to knit, Katya often sold scarves for extra cash. +Horror stuff: Be it a movie, a novel or comic, she likes it. But her favorite is horror game, especially if it's involving maze full of puzzles and creepy faces peeking from the corner. It's so exciting! +Kids: One of the reason Katya chose to become a teacher. She would love to have her own someday. Lots of them, so in her retirement days, she would have so many grandchildren. | -Violence: It never solves problem, unless it's a last resort. And even then, she still doesn't like it. -Crying: Especially in other people's company. It's embarrassing for a grown woman like her to cry over every little things. Everytime Kateryna feels that she's about to cry, she tried to prevent it by thinking about happy things. It usually works. -Being useless: It's uncomfortable seeing other people work to fulfill her needs while she just sit and do nothing productive. -Lazy people: Selfish, egoist and take things for granted. A person can't live on his/her own. Those people should know what it feels doing everything by themselves, without anyone's help. -Buttons: Re-sewing them to her shirts are troublesome. |
Fears |
-Death: Not the death itself, but the one Kateryna afraid of is the state of suffering and lifelessness. She has learned that death is natural, part of the cycle of life, but she still afraid she'd see it happens to people she loves. -Hurting someone: Accidental or not. Kateryna can't stand seeing others hurt, let alone actually hurting them. What if she gave them permanent scar? Maimed them? Killed them? |
BACKSTORY |
Kateryna was born in a village near Ukrainian border, when her mother was visiting her parents. She spent her childhood in northern part of Russia together with her parents and two younger siblings. Young Kateryna was a tomboy, often played with the boys around her age and they even considered her as a scary girl. This finally changed when Kateryna fell ill and had to stay in bed for a week. During this time, a same nightmare always came in her sleep. A cloaked figure chased her everywhere, saying that it'd take away everything she cared about and eventually Kateryna herself. Every things she touched in the dream, be it a teapot or a person, would be taken by that mysterious being. When she finally recovered, Kateryna often thought what the figure said in her dream would really happened to her family and friends. That made her more sensitive to pain others experienced. Being a hardworker, Kateryna was always busy doing things. She learned how to bake and knit so she could sell stuff for extra money. Her sensitivity made her cry easily, which resulted her to had few friends at school. Her only companion were books, so she compensated her loneliness with studying hard. She graduated high school with good marks and got accepted at college. During her years in college, she met a man named Aleksandr Chernenko. He was a year older than her, and often helped Kateryna with her studies. They started dating in her third year, then he proposed once he graduated. Once Kateryna got accepted as a teacher, they married. When Kateryna heard that her entire family was going to move to an island, she initially didn't want to follow along. Aleksandr was still in university, pursuing a PhD in Kiev. He advised her to move with her family since he knew Kateryna missed them so much, especially her siblings. So she applied to become a teacher at a local highschool, a bit unaware of class 3-3's reputation... |
